Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamanei, on Thursday pardoned a group of prisoners convicted by military courts and commuted the sentences of others, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The pardon will include all convicts whose conviction has been confirmed by the military courts by May 24, 2001.
The pardon was granted in response to a request by Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the strategic southern Iranian port city of Khorramshahr in 1982 from Iraqi troops, said the agency – Albawaba.com
