India and Iran have decided to develop a new road to Afghanistan to enrich their regional trade, a foreign ministry spokesman said Monday.

Delegations from the three countries met in the Iranian capital of Tehran between January 4-5 to determine the most effective means to use the Chabahar-Melak-Zaranj-Delaram road, a spokesman for the Indian ministry of external affairs, Navtej Sarna, told reporters in New Delhi, according to AFP.

For its part, India has offered to build the 213-kilometer Zaraanag-Delaram part of the route, he added.

Once the route is operational, it will intensely facilitate trade with Iran and Afghanistan, the spokesman said, and help India with its rehabilitation and reconstruction program. (Albawaba.com)
