Leading pro-reform Iranian cleric Hassan, Youssefi Eshkevari, was arrested Saturday just hours after returning here from an extended stay in Paris, his colleagues told AFP.
Five policemen came to take Eshkevari, who faces trial by the Special Court for Clergy on charges of "acting against national security, spreading propaganda against the state and insulting Islamic values."
He had arrived to a hero's welcome at Tehran airport late Friday, daring to return even though the arrest warrant had already been issued.
After an emotional welcome by some 100 supporters and pro-reform deputies of parliament, Eshkevari vowed: "Reforms will triumph." - TEHRAN (AFP)
