Iran's security forces arrested Tuesday three Turks carrying in their vehicle 34 kilograms of morphine in the Kerman province, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

Security sources said that the drug haul was seized during an inspection of a vehicle with Turkish license plates, according to IRNA which added that the thee were heading to the southern province of Fars.

Iran is located on the crossroad of international drug trade, where drugs produced in countries such as Afghanistan are shipped to destinations in Europe, the Arabian Gulf and Central Asian states.

In 1999, 740 drug dealers and 174 security members were killed in operations to combat drug trafficking in the country, said the agency -- Albawaba.com
