ALBAWABA - NATO announced intercepting an Iranian drone in the airspace of Turkey. However, an Iranian official denied on Thursday launching any missiles or drones towards Ankara, local Iranian media reported.

Earlier, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced that NATO defenses shot down an Iranian drone in its airspace, adding that the missile had passed Syria and Iraq before it was destroyed by NATO air and missile defense systems over the eastern Mediterranean.

The incident marks the first time Turkey has reported and destroyed an Iranian missile, Fox News said.

On the other hand, Iranian television, quoted the General Staff of the Armed Forces, saying, "The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran respect the sovereignty of the neighboring and friendly State of Turkey, and deny the launch of any missiles toward the territory of that country."
