Tehran Police Commander, Morteza Talaie, said that 20,000 policemen will guarantee security of election day in Tehran on Friday. Talking to reporters Thursday, he said another 5,000 are tasked with patrolling the city 24 hours ahead of election.

According to IRNA, he said the police will prevent any form of violation of election laws and will enforce ban on any kind of election campaign by any of the candidates one day before the election.

He also said movement of all motorcycles are prohibited on streets until end of balloting on Friday.

Meanwhile, presidential hopeful Mohsen Rezaei announced his withdrawal from the race in a letter sent to the Interior Ministry on Thursday.

In his letter, Rezaei said he reached a decision to prevent scattering of votes among eight candidates which would result in coming to office of a president in absence of strong backing of people.

It should be noted that former president, Hashemi Rafsanjani, is the front-runner in Friday's election.
