ALBAWABA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Araghchi landed at Beirut Airport today, Sunday, to take part in the funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine in Lebanon.

Abbas Araqchi told the press from Beirut Airport: "I am participating in the solemn funeral procession representing the Iranian President. The funeral of the two gentlemen will prove that the resistance is alive and will achieve divine victory."

In addition to the Foreign Minister, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf will also attend the funeral of slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

Videos and local media reported that tens of thousands have gathered in Beirut today to participate in the funeral of Hezbollah’s former leaders; Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine.

Hassan Nasrallah's assassination:

About five months earlier, the Israeli army targeted Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Nasrallah was killed when the Israeli army dropped over 80 bombs on Hezbollah's main operations room leading to Nasrallah's death.

It is worth noting that Nasrallah was the group’s leader for over 30 years and one of its founders, but he was killed in an airstrike on Sept. 27, 2024.

Hashem Safieddine's assassination:

Hassan Nasrallah's cousin and successor Hashem Safieddine was also targeted by an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb on Oct. 3, 2024, a few days after the former secretary-general's death. He will be laid to rest in his hometown in southern Lebanon.

The war between Hezbollah and Israel started on Oct. 8, when Hezbollah launched rockets and artillery attacks targeting Tel Aviv following Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The war continued between the Iranian-backed group and Israel for over 14 months until an agreement was reached between them on Nov. 27, 2024. After the deal, thousands of Lebanese returned to their homes in the south, hours after the ceasefire came into effect.
