Iran to Host Tenth Conference of G-77 in August

Iran will host the tenth conference of the Group of 77 developing countries on August 18, which will be attended by senior delegations from 133 countries, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA). 

United Nations Development Program (UNDP) administrator Mark Malloch Brown will also attend the conference, which is aimed at discussing the numerous challenges faced by developing countries.  

The executive secretary of G-77, Morad Ahmieh, who will preside over the upcoming conference, is currently visiting Tehran at the official invitation of the government.  

He expressed satisfaction over the preparations undertaken by Iran for holding the G-77 meeting, according to IRNA.  

"Dialogue among G-77 members leads to closer ties and expansion of mutual cooperation between developing countries in various fields of trade, technology, agriculture, industry and energy,” he said. 

The group was established in 1964 by 77 developing countries which signed the Joint Declaration of the 77 Countries – Albawaba.com
