Iranian authorities allegedly detained three foreigners traveling through the country under suspicion of attempting to join the Islamic State in Iraq, AP reports.
Several travelers of Pakistani and Afghan origin were stopped en route to neighboring Iraq, according to the state-owned newspaper, IRAN daily, which quoted Interior Minister Abdoleza Rahmani Fazli who confirmed “three cases of arrests.”
Tensions have been high in the Shia republic since IS militants seized parts of Iraq and Syria in early July.
