The value of trade between Iran and its largest European trading partner, Italy, stood at 2.75 billion dollars in the first 11 months of 2000, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
An official at Italy's national statistics department told IRNA that during that period Italy imported 2.08 billion dollars worth of goods from Iran.
The official said that Italy, in turn, exported 670 million dollars worth of goods to Iran.
“Therefore, Italy's imports from Iran constituted more than 75 percent of the total commercial transactions between the two countries in the January-November period,” said the official.
Both countries, meanwhile, signed an agreement to build one of the world’s largest plastic producing outfits during a visit by Italy’s minister of industries and commerce Enrico Letta to the Islamic republic.
Letto arrived Sunday in Tehran heading a 120- strong delegation of Italian industrialists, businessmen and bankers.
Italy has bolstered ties with Tehran since Iranian President Mohammad Khatami visited Rome in March 1999.
