Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Sunday pardoned 742 prisoners to mark the birthday of the 12th imam (religious leader) of Shiite Islam, IRNA reported. The inmates were all common law criminals, it stated.
Armed robbers, drug traffickers and convicted murderers are generally not included in Iran's amnesties, which are mostly decreed for religious occasions in the Islamic republic. (Albawaba.com)
