Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to attend a summit in Riyadh addressing the Israel-Hamas war.
This would be his first visit to Saudi Arabia since diplomatic relations were restored after seven years. The deal was brokered by China and announced in March.
The summit, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), will take place one day after an emergency meeting of Arab League leaders on the war in Riyadh.
A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed Raisi's attendance at the OIC summit.
The OIC has consistently condemned Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza. The death toll there has surpassed 10,000, including over 4,000 children, after a month of relentless Israeli bombardment.
Raisi and Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, discussed the Palestinian cause and the "need to end war crimes against Palestine" in their first phone call on October 12, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.
Neither country recognizes Israel. Before the conflict, Saudi Arabia was involved in discussions, facilitated by the United States, regarding possible normalization.
Iran has long provided financial and military support for Hamas. Saudi officials are concerned about the potential wider implications of the conflict on Prince Mohammed's Vision 2030 reform agenda.
