Iranian President Mohammed Khatami warned Sunday of the "psychological sickness" of international relations amid the ongoing violence in the Middle East, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The massacre of the Palestinian people is proof of the worsening of the psychological sickness of international relations ... and the will of the great powers to impose their point of view," Khatami told visiting Austrian parliamentary head Heinz Fischer.

Iran does not recognize the state of Israel, is opposed to the peace process and has called for all Palestinians to have the right of return to their homeland.

Khatami also said that Tehran and Vienna "should develop their relations in all spheres, notably economic," while Fischer for his part expressed Austria's desire for better ties.
