Iranian President Mohammed Khatami will pay a visit to the United Arab Emirates next week, in response to an invitation by UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sutlan al Nahyan.
Khatami will be the first Iranian president to visit the UAE since the latter was set up in 1971, Arab diplomatic sources said, according to the official Qatar News Agency QNA.
The sources added that the visit would be in the framework of a tour that would take Khatami also to Lebanon and Afghanistan.
Khatami’s visit to the UAE reflects the success of UAE minister of state for foreign affairs recent visit to Tehran, QNA added.
The Iranian President’s visit will be the first high level effort by both countries to solve the pending matter of the three disputed gulf islands of greater Tunb, lesser Tunb and Abou Mousa. (albawaba.com)
