Iran's intelligence ministry on Tuesday said it had foiled a plot to bomb one of its holy cities and seized two suicide belts, AFP reported

The report said that Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi disclosed that 130 alleged militants had been arrested in connection with the averted plot. It was not clear when the arrests had taken place, but the report said the explosives had been seized before Jerusalem Day memorials on July 25.

Citing the Iranian Students' News Agency, AFP said Alavi told lawmakers that 'significant' amounts of explosives had been destined for use in an attack on an unnamed holy city, and that the explosive belts were planned for use in two different provinces.

Alavi blamed "takfiris" - a blanket term for Sunni militants - for the alleged bomb plot, the report said.
