Iran has thanked Egypt for aiding Tehran in its effort to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa received Sunday a thank-you letter from his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharrazi, IRNA said, quoting the Egyptian Al-Ahram weekly.
Kharrazi expressed Iran's gratitude for the intensive diplomatic
efforts extended by Egypt's diplomatic mission in Geneva to push for the approval of a four-year-old request from Tehran to join the WTO, said the agency.
Earlier this month, Faiza Abul-Naga, Egypt's permanent
representative to the UN's European headquarters in Geneva, pleaded with the international organization to consider Tehran's
request that was presented in July 1996.
The request has tentatively been put on the agenda for discussion next month, said Al-Ahram.
According to an Egyptian foreign ministry source, "Egypt's
support of Tehran's request is consistent with Egypt's firm policy that calls for the right of all developing countries to join the WTO," said IRNA -- Albawaba.com
