An Iranian serial thief has had the fingers of his right hand chopped off as punishment, in line with the nation's strict version of sharia, or Islamic, law, press reports said Wednesday.
The amputation was ordered for the unidentified man by a court in the central town of Shahreza, the Kayhan paper said. It did not give the date or any further details.
Sharia has been in effect in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution. It calls for the death penalty for those guilty of armed robbery as well as amputation for repeated thievery -- TEHRAN (AFP)
