Iran claimed on Tuesday that it ‘captured’ another US drone, after it entered Iranian airspace, according to the Revolutionary Guard.

"The unmanned US drone patrolling Persian Gulf waters, performing reconnaissance and gathering intel, was captured as soon as it entered Iranian airspace," the RG was quoted by state broadcaster IRIB as saying.

They added that the drone was a ‘ScanEagle’ model, which is thought to be less sophisticated than other models and is mainly used for reconnaissance.

The US Navy issued a statement on Tuesday saying it had not lost any drones over the Gulf recently and denied that Iran had "captured" one of theirs.

In December 2011, Iran captured another US drone in the north-west of the country.
