Iran on Sunday said UN Security Council adoption of resolution against Iran would escalate the crisis in the region. "If the UN Security Council passes a resolution against Iran on Monday, the (Europe's) package of incentives will not be in the agenda any more," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi.
The proposed package of incentives was drawn up by the five permanent UN Security Council members -- Britain, France, the United States, China and Russia -- plus Germany (Group 5+1) and was handed over to Iran by the European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on June 6.
"We think Europe should pay attention that in case of any severe measures against Iran, the country will revise in its policies," Asefi said, according to IRNA. He assessed as "critical" the current situation in the Middle East region, noting, "Those who are after adoption of a resolution against Iran, are following the US theory to escalate crisis in the region."
