The Iranian and Algerian presidents, Mohammad Khatami and Abdelaziz Bouteflika, met in New York on the sidelines of the UN summit in the two states' highest political contact since ties were frozen in 1993, the IRNA (Iran News Agency) said Wednesday.
It said Khatami had a "brief meeting" Tuesday with his Algerian counterpart, after the Iranian president delivered a speech at an Iranian-sponsored "Dialogue Among Nations" event in which he called for the nations of the world to embrace dialogue for the sake of averting hostility - TEHRAN (AFP)
