Iran's former judiciary chief Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, in first Friday prayer sermon held in Tehran Friday, warned US to shake off its domineering air and stop intimidating world countries.

"America thinks that since it has power it could bring the world to its knees, but it is ignorant of the fact that power alone is not the solution to all problems," he told thousands of worshipers at the Tehran University campus.

"They (US officials) first attracted the world public opinion in the name of the fight against terrorism. Now they are threatening countries by atomic weapons," the prominent cleric said, and denounced the threats as "unwise."

"You may reduce many to dust and blood and kill many innocent people, but stay assured that this will not solve your problem and the world will not give in," Ayatollah Yazdi addressed US officials as saying.

According to IRNA, Ayatollah Yazdi also warned that "Iran is not like Afghanistan to be easily attacked." "Our people prefer a dignified death to servitude since they follow Imam Hussein," he said.

Ayatollah Yazdi urged Iranian officials and military personnel to maintain unity "in this sensitive juncture." "We do not have any right to do something or say anything which may bring about our regret," he added.

Ayatollah Yazdi condemned Israel, saying "The violent attacks of the Zionist regime's forces against Palestinians and martyrdom of tens of Palestinian men, women and children is weighing heavily on the conscience of vigilant people and we blame this partly on America which is supporting Israel."
