Secretary of the Higher Council of Iran’s National Security, Hasan Rohani said that Israel is the source of international terrorism and racism and constitutes a serious threat to the region, according to Syria Times.
During a meeting with the chief of the Foreign Policy Committee at the German Parliament, Hans Ulrick Klaus held in Tehran on Wednesday, Rohani said that Israel is the “insurmountable obstacle” holding back the creation of a Middle East free of mass destruction weapons.
The support Israel receives by the United States and the European Union (EU), according to Rohani, makes the world believe that the West is not indeed serious about combating terrorism. He spoke about the Muslim world’s discontent over the Western countries position towards what is going on in occupied Palestine and over its double-standard policy dealing with combating terrorism.
In return, Klaus stated that the EU’s stance regarding the Middle East has changed, and that the Union has given up the policy of unilateral support. The main problem, Klaus said, lies in the fact that Israel does not recognize the Palestinians as an equal party.
Israel, he added, has always dealt with the Palestinians as a “second class” people. It ought to recognize the Palestinian people as a first step for solving the problem, Klaus said. The German official reiterated his country’s will on enhancing relations with Tehran and on maintaining cooperation for re-constructing war-torn Afghanistan. (Albawaba.com)
