Iranian police have arrested 50 young men and women in a raid on a "depraved" party in an apartment in a well-off district in northern Tehran, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA), quoting a press report on Sunday.
The government-run daily, Iran, said most of those arrested, who were participating in a "birthday party" for the daughter of the landlord, were from the same family.
It said foreign nationals of Iranian origin were among the detainees, all aged 17-25.
While all of the detainees say they had gathered there to attend the birthday festivities, a judicial source told the daily, "the [birthday] was a pretext for the depraved
party since the birth date of the daughter of the landlord does not fall on the night they had gathered."
The source said that they were dancing “mixedly” which is banned under Islamic Sharia law.
Iran quoted a detainee identified as Kourosh, 25, as saying, "My father is French and my mother Iranian. I came to Iran 10 days ago after 22 years to visit my parents."
"Such parties are routine abroad and we hold many of them," he added – Albawabwa.com
