An Iranian satellite television station said on Tuesday it had asked Iraqi authorities for permission to open a bureau in Baghdad, which would be the first such office in two decades.
"The delegation met with Iraqi Information Minister Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf and presented him with a request to open a permanent bureau in Baghdad," Jabar Hatami, editor-in-chief of Sahar Universal Network, told AFP.
"Iraq is at the center of world events that raises the interest of world television stations," Hatami said in reference to repeated US threats of military action to topple Saddam Hussein's regime, which Washington accuses of developing weapons of mass destruction.
As of now, no Iranian television station has a bureau in Baghdad. (Albawaba.com)
