ALBAWABA - Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei renewed Tehran's threats to Israel on Wednesday after it was accused of attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

Khamenei warned Israel that it "will be punished" over its airstrike on the consulate in Damascus leading to the killing of seven Revolutionary Guards, two of them generals.

"The evil regime made a mistake in this regard; it must be punished and will be punished," the supreme leader vowed in a televised speech after Eid al-Adha prayers in the capital.

Khamenei added the April 1 deadly attack, which destroyed the Iranian embassy in Syria, is considered a violation of international agreements which insist on the inviolability of diplomatic premises.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said: "The consulate and embassy offices in any country are the territory of that country."

He added: "When they attacked our consulate, it means they attacked our territory."

IRNA news reported on Wednesday that the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei attended the Grand Mosalla Mosque of Tehran and led prayers marking Eid Al-Fitr in Iran.
