A bomb that went off outside a Shiite mosque in northern Baghdad killed at least 35 people as Muslim worshippers left their evening prayers.
Police officials who spoke to the Associated Press say that more than 50 people were wounded in the blast, which occurred in the northern Baghdad district of Kasra, a predominantly Shiite area of the city that is dominated by Sunnis.

According to AP, the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak to the press.
Wednesday's blast is the latest attack in a surge of violence that has seen, on average, 15 people die a day since April 2013.
