Four Iraqis were killed Sunday and 27 injured when US and British warplanes struck civilian installations in Basra and two other southern provinces, a military spokesman was quoted by the official INA news agency as saying.

U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida, said it had no information on the report. "We have nothing on it," Lieutenant Colonel Martin Compton said, according to Reuters.

"U.S. and British warplanes raided the Southern Oil Company in Basra. Four people were martyred and several others wounded during the raid," one resident told the news agency. Later, it was reported at least eight people were killed in the bombing. The residents said company offices were hit.

Meanwhile, international weapons monitors inspected an idle air field north of Baghdad Sunday, apparently searching for devices that can spray deadly microbes from the air.

It was the fourth day of renewed inspections. On Sunday, the experts spent about 4 1/2 hours at the airfield. Afterward, the Iraqi in charge of the installation, Montadhar Radeef Mohammed, told reporters the inspectors checked seals and tags that had been left by their predecessors, went through all the offices and rooms on the site and made copies of computer files. According to AP, he said they found no prohibited material. (Albawaba.com)
