A truck exploded Saturday as worshippers left a Sunni mosque west of Baghdad, killing at least 35 people and wounding more than 60. At least 35 people were killed and 62 injured in the blast which hit the mosque in Habbaniyah, said Lt. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed.
Locals said that on Friday the mosque's imam had criticised al Qaeda militants.
At least 15 people died in attacks on Saturday in the Iraqi capital. Late on Saturday in Baghdad, more than 20 loud explosions in quick succession rocked a southern district of the city. The U.S. military said the cause of the blasts were "indirect fire". Brigadier Qassim Moussawi, spokesman for Iraqi forces in the capital, told Reuters the blasts were the result of military operations by Iraqi and U.S. forces conducting a major security crackdown in Baghdad.
