A commercial helicopter contracted by the U.S. Defense Department crashed north of the Iraqi capital Thursday, killing nine people, including three Bulgarians, officials said.
Also on Thursday, a bomb exploded Thursday on Baghdad's airport road, destroying at least two sports utility vehicles driving in a small convoy, witnesses said. The bomb was targeting Western contract workers. At least two people were killed, Iraqi police said, according to Reuters.
Late on Wednesday, another blast targeted interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's convoy. Allawi escaped unharmed, his spokesman said, according to The AP.
Another blast sent smoke billowing over Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, home to the Iraqi government and foreign embassies.
Al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for two of the Baghdad attacks in a series of statements posted on a Web site.
