Iraqi police officials said two roadside bombs in Iraq's western Anbar province have killed one officer and injured three other people. According to the AP, Police Maj. Khalil Jabbar said a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol went off Sunday in central Fallujah, killing one officer.
Police 1st Lt. Bashar Khudaeir added a second roadside bomb targeting a patrol in another part of the city wounded one officer and two civilians.
Meanwhile, Iraqi forces have detained two Sunni neighborhood guards, a security spokesman said on Saturday, after a string of other arrests in Baghdad that raised tensions. U.S.-backed Sunni fighters who switched sides to fight al Qaeda in late 2006 have been key to reducing violence in the capital and elsewhere, but many have been dismayed by the past week's arrests and attacks on guards accused of criminal acts.
According to Reuters, Baghdad security spokesman Qassim al-Moussawi said the two were detained in the capital's southern Dora district four days ago.
