Iraq's Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan on Tuesday urged Arab leaders to allow the masses to wage a jihad, or holy war, to liberate Palestinian land given the failure of peace negotiations.
"Arab governments have been negotiating for 20 years but have not managed to liberate Palestine. They must now grant the Arab masses a few months to assume their role through jihad," he said.
"The choice of a US-Zionist peace is a dream, a mirage," Ramadan said at the opening in Baghdad of an Arab conference grouping political parties, unions and non-governmental organizations.
Ramadan also urged the Arab masses to turn to jihad to "chase out the US forces stationed in the Arabian Gulf and throughout the Arab world to support the intifada by all means."
On Saturday, he called for Arabs to threaten US and Israeli interests in their countries in solidarity with the Palestinian uprising against the Jewish state – BAGHDAD (AFP)
