At least sixteen people were killed in multi-car bomb explosion in Baghdad Sunday, according to AFP sources.
Six car bombs exploded in five different Shiite-majority areas within the Iraqi capital. At least fifty individuals were wounded in the attacks.
The deadliest attack was reported in the north Baghdad neighborhood of Shaab where at least five people were killed and seventeen were wounded.
It is not yet clear who is responsible for the attacks, but Sunni militants have often conducted such acts against Iraq's Shiite majority.
The October death toll in Iraq has already passed 600 and more than 5,300 have been killed in 2013 alone, according to AFP's sources. The escalation of violence in the country is becoming increasingly comparable to levels seen only during the 2006-2007 Sunni-Shiite conflict that killed tens of thousands.
