An Iraqi alcohol smuggler was hospitalized after having a booty of 30,000 Saudi riyals (7,800 dollars) stuck in his stomach for three months, a newspaper said Wednesday.
Alef Ba said the 24-year-old smuggler, whose name was not given, made the money by smuggling 15 crates of alcohol across the border into Saudi Arabia, where alcoholic drinks are banned under Islamic law.
He failed to retrieve the concealed money despite taking all kinds of laxatives and was finally taken ill with sharp stomach pains.
The smuggler was treated in hospital in Babel, 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Baghdad, and detained for police questioning after the money was recovered, the weekly newspaper said – BAGHDAD (AFP)
