Heavy rains in Iraq helped propel the Police football club to first place in the league as the previous leader's game was postponed because of the weather.

Although former league leader Air Force's road game against Maysan was postponed, Police fans enjoyed as striker Mufid Asem put on a stellar performance with four goals against al-Koot. His goals came on the 5th, 16th, 71st and 85th minutes. Al-Koot pulled one goal back on the 72nd minute on a penalty kick executed by Raheem Saeed. According to Jumhuriya daily, the Police dominated the game from the whistle.

The referee was the Iraqi international Muhammad Saheb who warned three al-Koot players.
