The Iraqi security forces have launched a military offensive to clear the outskirts of Fallujah from the Daesh extremists, a senior Iraqi army source said on Thursday.

The source told Petra's reporter in Baghdad that "15 Daesh elements were killed during the crackdown".

The onslaught against the militants saw the involvement of the international coalition and Iraqi warplanes, the source added.

The 'tightening the noose' operation also involved troops from the Iraqi army, police and volunteers from the National Crowd, it explained.
