Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri said Friday that new talks with the United Nations set tentatively for July in Vienna, Austria must be comprehensive and bear guarantees on the lifting of sanctions.

"The word dialogue must not mean negotiations, but an effort to reach a mutual understanding or to bring together our conception with that of the UN secretary general," Sabri told Iraqi satellite television, according to AFP.

"Iraq wants a clear mechanism that would lead to the lifting of sanctions and the embargo against our people, to the protection of our sovereignty and our independence and the integrity of our territory," he said.

Naji Sabri warned the talks must not focus solely on United States concerns about Iraqi weapon programs. (Albawaba.com)
