A report released today by the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq states that the numbers of women and children being trafficked and sold into sexual slavery is "at its height" according to Houzan Mahmoud its Iraqi representative.
This startling admission demonstrates that despite government claims to the contrary, the security situation in Iraq is in a state of degradation, and that is having particularly vicious consequences for Iraqi women and children.
Upon hearing the report, Ahrar leader Ayad Jamal Aldin said, "This report is damning. There are even allegations that Iraqi Representatives and government officials promote this oppression of women by keeping the numbers of prostitutes on their mobile phones."
"Ahrar demands that the Iraqi government investigates these claims to their fullest extent. The al-Maliki government has done nothing to help protect women's rights. Ahrar is a movement of youth, women and men and believe that only an inclusive Iraq based on fairness and trust can address the problems all Iraqis suffer from."
"Ahrar will fight to ensure women's rights and to track those responsible for these wicked acts."
The Ahrar movement members are represented by Sunni, Shia, Kurd and Christian faiths.
