An Iraqi official said Sunday that thousands of volunteers have arrived in Baghdad, eager to carry out more suicide attacks against U.S. and British forces.
Lt. Gen. Hazem al-Rawi, a senior Iraqi defense official, said Saturday's first suicide attack, in whch four American infantrymen were killed, marked "the beginning of a long path of jihad for Iraqis and Arabs against the invaders."
"The martyrdom attacks by the sons of Iraq and by the armed forces have just begun," al-Rawi told a news conference. "These are the first."
Al-Rawi said Arabs were flocking to Baghdad seeking "martyrdom" to defeat the invasion forces. "The Mujahideen who have come to Iraq have come from all Arab countries, without exception," he said. "More than 4,000 have already come to Baghdad."
"We are a believing people, a fighting people, Jihad is a must, a duty ordained by God," he said. (Albawaba.com)
