ALBAWABA - Amid the escalation in the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has landed in the Iranian capital Tehran, and is expected to meet with Iranian officials to discuss the ongoing situation.

On the first leg of a regional tour, Al-Sudani is heading a high-ranking delegation, to discuss the developments in Gaza as Israel continues pummeling the Palestinian enclave with nearly ten thousand dead, state media reported.

On Saturday, Al-Sudani stated at a conference in Baghdad: "The massacres committed by Israel in Gaza confirm the failure of the international community to perform its role".

"Our clear position is the necessity of stopping the aggression and preventing the region from sliding into a war. Whoever is keen for this not to happen must work for an immediate ceasefire" Al-Sudani added.

As the Israeli aggression enters its second month on the besieged strip, according to the Ministry of Health's latest report, Israeli forces managed to kill more than 9,770 Palestinians, including 4,800 children and 2550.

Additionally, 24,808 have reportedly been injured varying between severe and minor injuries. Ministry of Health also received 2,660 reports of missing people, most of whom are children.

Prior to his visit to Tehran, Sudani met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Baghdad during his unannounced surprise visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad. "I made very clear that attacks or threats coming from militias that are aligned with Iran are totally unacceptable," Blinken said on Sunday.

After their discussion, Blinken gave an interview to the media in which he stated that his nation is "not looking for conflict with Iran" but that it will do everything in its power to defend American citizens, especially in Iraq and Syria. The US "will take every necessary step to protect our people," Blinken continued.

In an opinion piece published in The Guardian, al-Sudani wrote: "Few countries have endured the suffering and conflict that Iraq has experienced over the past 50 years. The tragic events in Gaza bring back painful memories for the Iraqi people. Red lines have been crossed, with civilians enduring unimaginable suffering, and as a result, there is an urgent need for critical humanitarian assistance,".
