Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announces resignation

ALBAWABA - Following years in office, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced that he will be stepping down from his duties. 

He announced his resignation from the steps of government buildings on Wednesday.  Varadkar called his tenure "the most fulfilling time of my life" while serving his country.

In the 2020 Irish general election, Mr Varadkar led his party to third place in terms of seats in Dáil Éireann, the country's lower house of parliament.
