The head of Egypt's Chambers of Commerce Union called here Sunday for a resumption of full diplomatic ties between Cairo and Tehran, the state IRNA news agency said.
"This visit is not just for creating the foundation of economic cooperation," said Khaled Abu Ismail, who is leading a trade delegation for several days of talks with Iranian counterparts.
"We have decided to push for a full restoration of relations," he said, cited by IRNA, adding that he hoped Iranian trade officials would take part in joint investment and development programs.
Relations between Cairo and Tehran, broken off in 1980 after Iran's Islamic revolution, have warmed in recent years and are now at the level of charges d'affaires.
