ALBAWABA - The Syrian Ministry of Interior posted footage revealing details of the arrest of a "terrorist cell" which was planning to carry out several bombings in sensitive areas inside the country.
The ministry revealed that the ISIS cell was planning to carry out attacks inside a church in Maaloula, southwestern Syria and bombing the Sayyida Zeinab shrine in Damascus.
The report also clarified that the cell also planned the assassination of interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa with the aim of inciting sectarian strife and destabilizing Syria.
The video released by the Interior Ministry highlighted the confessions of two prominent figures in the cell; Arkan Saeed Fadl, known as "Abu al-Harith al-Iraqi," responsible for coordinating operations in Syria, and Muhammad Ali al-Hussein, known as "Abu Walid al-Homsi," who confessed that the cell was planning to carry out a series of bombings in various areas.
Media reported that despite the high precision of the planning, Syrian intelligence work and the rapid implementation of preemptive measures prevented these plans from being implemented.
