The Islamic Jihad in Palestine group claimed responsibility Thursday for a Palestinian suicide bombing against an Israeli military post in the Gaza Strip that injured one soldier.
In a statement received here, Islamic Jihad said one of its fighters, "the martyr Nabil al-Arrir, 24, attacked a Zionist military position near the Gouvim (Jewish) settlement in the Gaza Strip, causing victims in the enemy ranks.
The movement said it "will continue suicide-operations, as they are the sole way to achieve a liberation of our land and victory."
"This suicide-operation is not the first (Islamic Jihad has carried out) and will not be the last. The oppressors of today will get their punishment," the statement said.
An Israeli army spokesman accused the Palestinian Authority on Thursday of giving "the green light to this attack and others being prepared."
"It is a direct result of the release two weeks ago of terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad who have blood on their hands and are explosive experts," he added.
General Abdelrazzak Al-Majeada, head of Palestinian security operations in the Gaza Strip, denied the accusations, calling them "lies and Israeli inventions devoid of truth."
A Palestinian security official had earlier identified the bomber as Nabil Farraj Al-Arrir, 23, from the al-Shajaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City – BEIRUT (AFP)
