Israeli forces detained a 13-year-old Palestinian from his home in the al-Issawiya neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem overnight Tuesday, a lawyer said.

Muhammad Mahmoud of the Addameer prisoners’ rights group identified the youth as Tariq Mustafa, adding that he was detained along with Ahmad Jamal Atiyah, 19.

Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an he had no information on the detentions.

Mustafa's detention comes as Israeli watchdog Military Court Watch (MCW) submitted a report to the UN Special Rapporteur regarding common mistreatment of children held in Israeli military detention.

In addition to routine detention of youth in occupied East Jerusalem, Palestinian youth detained throughout the West Bank are brought the Israel's military court system.

MCW reported findings by UNICEF documenting that, "the ill-treatment of children who come in contact with the military detention system appears to be widespread, systematic and institutionalized."

Israel detained 1,266 Palestinian children below the age of 15 in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in 2014, according to a PLO report, and over 10,000 Palestinian children have been detained by Israeli forces since 2000.
