A 35-year-old Lebanese Jew who immigrated to Israel 10 years ago was charged Thursday at the Tel Aviv District Court with providing information to the Lebanese Resistance group Hizbullah with the “intent of harming Israel's security.”
The accused, whose first name "Nissim" was released for publication, is from the center of israel, Haaretz reported. He is the son of a Shi'ite father and a Jewish mother and some of his family members still reside in Lebanon, with whom he used to keep in touch by telephone.
He is charged with contacting Hizbullah members and receiving various missions from them. He was allegedly asked by the Lebanese group to obtain a Tel Aviv map identifying gas and electrical depots, to provide a photograph of a family member who worked in the Israeli security establishment and to become friendly with a high-ranking Israeli officer in order to garner information about different military operations.
According to Israel’s Itim news agency, the suspect has confessed to some of the charges. He allegedly informed the Lebanese group that Israel planned to assassinate high-ranking Hizbullah members. He is further charged with giving them the army's Gaza Strip and Lebanon incursion plans and photographs of gas and electrical depots without being asked to do so. (Albawaba.com)
