Germany’s Siemens has been awarded a contract to supply three natural gas turbines to Israel’s state-run electric corporation, IEC.
Siemens is reportedly currently holding talks with General Electric over the supply of a fourth turbine, according to a report by EyeforEnergy.
Purchasing and setting up the three turbines, each capable of generating 370 megawatts of power, will cost $550 million, with the first turbine to come on-line at the end of 2003 or start of 2004, the IEC was quoted as saying in a statement.
The turbines will help the IEC prevent a repeat of the situation last summer, when record demand for power pushed reserves to zero, the IEC said – Albawaba.com
