Israel has withdrawn its ambassador to Jordan over fears of violent protests against its embassy in Amman, Israeli diplomatic sources conveyed on Thursday. According to Reuters, Ambassador Daniel Nevo and his senior staff were brought back after being warned of imminent protests similar to last week in Cairo.

Israel would decide on Sunday whether its diplomats in Jordanwould go back on Sunday as usual, the diplomatic sources said. It is reported that a diplomat and several security guards remain at the embassy, which is under heavy Jordanian guard.

A senior Foreign Ministry official told Israel's Haaretz newspaper that the planned protest was organized on Facebook, adding that over 3,000 signed up to participate. However, officials estimated that only a few several hundred will actually take part in the protest.
