Israel has extended the imprisonment without trial of Palestinian circus performer Mohammad Abu Sakha by another six months, AFP reported.

Abu Sakha, 24, was arrested on Dec. 14 and held in administrative detention since January, the controversial policy of detaining suspects without trial for periods of six months, which can be renewed indefinitely.

"Administrative detention order extended (for) another six months. Our hearts are heavy," said a statement from the Palestinian Circus School.

The IDF has not yet confirmed or denied the extension for Abu Sakha.

Israel has not publicly confirmed the reason for his detention, but Amnesty International, which has called for his release, says Israel believes he is a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), considered a "terrorist organization" because of its armed wing.

Over 7,500 Palestinians are being held in Israeli jails, of whom about 700 are held under administrative detention, according to Palestinian prisoners' rights groups.
