ALBAWABA - The new government in Syria has been targeted again by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, who has called it a "terrorist gang" in spite of the fact that the leadership has received broad international backing after Bashar al-Assad was overthrown.

According to Sa'ar's remarks, which were carried by Israel's official television, the new Damascus leadership is "a gang of terrorists who previously operated in Idlib and have now taken over the Syrian capital." "The international community is eager to recognize them as a stable government because they want to repatriate refugees to Syria... This is an Islamic regime," he said, without offering any more details or supporting documentation.

Israel has stepped up its military operations in Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government earlier this month. It has taken control of cities in the demilitarized zone and targeted the nation's ports and airports.

Israeli authorities, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have often threatened the new Syrian government, calling its leaders "jihadists." Netanyahu promised to keep up his military actions against "the new regime in Syria."

The international world has generally praised the new Syrian administration, headed by General Ahmed Al-Sharaa, for its practical approach and dedication to reconstructing the nation, in contrast to Israel's position.

The administration's emphasis on justice, reconstruction, and protecting the rights of all Syrians has inspired hope among Western and Arab nations, especially the United States. Al-Sharaa stressed in a number of speeches that Syria wants to put development first after decades of strife and suffering and does not want to threaten other countries.

After 53 years of Assad family domination and 61 years of Ba'ath Party administration, opposition forces took over Damascus on December 8, 2024.
