ALBAWABA- The Israeli army on Tuesday announced the start of a wave of airstrikes on targets in southern Lebanon, urging residents of several towns to evacuate immediately.
Warplanes bombed a house in Mays al-Jabal, while heavy displacement was reported from Kafr Tibnit and Debin amid warnings of further raids on Hezbollah infrastructure.
The escalation follows a deadly Israeli airstrike late Monday in Baalbek’s Al-Asira neighborhood, which killed at least three people, including senior Hezbollah members Hussein Sharif and Kamal Raad.
Sharif was identified as a member of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force and was traveling on a motorcycle when the strike hit.
Lebanese Prime Minister condemned the assaults, accusing Israel of violating the U.S.-brokered cessation of hostilities agreement.
He urged international sponsors of the deal to pressure Israel to halt its operations, withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories, and adhere to its obligations under the ceasefire.
The strikes mark another sharp escalation in a conflict that has simmered despite the truce. Between November 2024 and April 2025, Israeli forces carried out at least 313 strikes in Lebanon, according to the Alma Research and Education Center.
The pace has continued into September, with near-daily drone overflights and attacks reported, contradicting the agreement’s provisions for mutual de-escalation and Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
